On My Nightstand

On My Nightstand

I am always on the lookout for some great books that will both encourage me and challenge personally and also as a wife, mom, and friend! These are books I have recently read and I wanted to pass them along to you!

book1Anxiety touches a large percentage of the worlds population. I never understood the struggle, until I dealt with it myself.  Anxiety seemed to get a choke hold on me and there were times it seemed so great I could not even breathe.  It was during a very difficult year and a half in my life with trials just coming one right after another. I didn’t like what anxiety was doing to me and how it made me feel so helpless, so when I saw this newly released book last year, I knew I needed to read it! I love the style of writing that Max Lucado has! He is very personable and relatable.  Max has no magic potions that make anxiety disappear, only God can bring healing from it.  He does however share truths from God’s Word and helpful insights that will help on your own road to recovery.  This book was probably the most helpful book I have read since reading The Broken Way by Ann Voskamp!

Does prayer seem to be a challenge for you? Do you find yourself struggling to keep a book2consistent prayer life? Or maybe you are like me and you just want to learn more about prayer! Before Amen perked my interest earlier this year because I never want to grow lazy in my prayer life. I want to always learn more about prayer and grow consistently in my prayer life as I continue to grow spiritually. Prayer is not fanciful words full of vain repetition. God is not impressed if our words are eloquent, He cares about the state of our heart.  Prayer is simply communication with God! Sometimes we have words, and other times our pain is so deep we have none. How thankful I am for the Holy Spirit, the One who makes intercession on our behalf with just the right words, even when we do not have any. {Romans 8:26} We are so blessed to be able to come to Jesus at any moment of any day, pour out our hearts, our burdens, our cares, and also intercede on the behalf of others, and Jesus not only hears us, but He WANTS us to talk with Him!

I rebook3member a phone conversation with a friend as I was in the process of getting my book, Made Only For Heaven, published. She shared that she also was working on a book and it was wonderful to be able to talk with each other about some of the things God has seen us both through and what He has taught us through them! Our journey’s were vastly different, but our heartbeat was in unison. We felt led to share and encourage other women with what God had taught us.  Anchored In is a book written by a genuine author! Micah and her family have walked through some pretty intense and heart-wrenching times, but they have stayed anchored in to Christ. Staying close to Jesus is the only way any of us can make it through and not give up! There are some very real and difficult trials we all face, but the power of Jesus is also very real! This is a book that will both challenge and encourage you in whatever place you find yourself right now!

We have all been there. We have all experienced hurt. A good majority of us have never book4had physical swords thrown at us, but we know the sting and searing pain words and actions can cause. Words are powerful, cutting us right to the core and when spears have been thrown our way, we are left with a choice. Will we pick those spears up and throw them back or will we leave them be?  Our flesh is strong and the urge to pick up even just a small spear and hurl it back at the one who hurt us is great! However, if we are saved we have a much higher calling than spear throwing. A Tale of Three Kings is an absolutely excellent read! Using the true account of King Saul, King David, and King Absalom from the Bible, this book will be very thought provoking.  What kind of person will we choose to be? The easy thing to do is to be a spear thrower, but spear throwing is not the calling of Christians. King David never picked up spears. Though they were literally thrown his way, he never picked them up. Revenge was not in his heart. What was his secret? You will have to read the book to find out!

All of these books have been incredibly helpful and I just had to pass them along! As always, if you have any to share I would love to hear about them!

Be encouraged!
