Enough is enough, let’s just get consistent!

Enough is enough, let’s just get consistent!

A year ago I was fed up with myself.

I was done with my inconsistent devotional time with God, my lack of a serious and purposeful prayer life.  I would read my Bible but was not getting out of it what I needed to get me through this life!  I found myself frustrated in my Christian walk and one morning I just laid it out there for the Lord.

I prayed to the Lord and confessed my sin, I told God just how fed up I was with myself.  I did not want to be an old woman one day who looked back on my life and only had regrets when it came to my walk with God.  I wanted to finally get this thing right!  I said, “With your help, Lord I will be consistent from this day forward.  Teach me how to be consistent.  Help me rise early every single morning, help me not to miss a day, convict my heart if I try to.  Help me to walk as closely to You as I possibly can!”

The very next morning I was awake early, not because I had set an alarm, but because God woke me up.  I got up, put the coffee on, grabbed my Bible and began the first day of my truly consistent walk with Him.

I believe that there has to come a time in every Christian’s life where they just say, “ENOUGH!  I’m ready to be consistent!”  Not just consistent in reading God’s Word, but consistent in all of it, true study of God’s Word and an increasing prayer life.  Until we reach that point, we will not follow through.

Throughout this year God has given victory and I have found myself feeling closer to God at this point in my life than ever before.  I say this not to pat myself on the back, but to share there really is victory to be found in Christ!  When we are ready to be serious, He is ready to offer His help.  This past year I have not needed an alarm clock once to wake me up.  Each morning the Lord wakes me up early enough to spend time alone with Him before the family begins to stir.

Friends, let’s get real, let’s get consistent, let’s admit to the struggle so that we can finally get victory over it!  Let’s get our walk with the Lord a daily consistent part of our life!  Let’s show Satan that we mean business in our walk with God and let him watch us as we daily put on the armor of God and get ready to do serious battle with him. He knows there is power in Christ, there is power in God’s Word and there is power in prayer!  Let’s stop trembling at what Satan tries to do in our life and let’s let him tremble as he watches us daily grow in our walk with Christ.   There is a war to be waged against Satan and there is victory to be found in Christ!

Be encouraged!

Hearing From Heaven

Hearing From Heaven

The past few weeks my husband has been preaching from the book of Ephesians on the Armor of God.  This past Sunday he spoke on the darts that Satan shoots at us and how he aims for our most vulnerable areas.

Friends, have you ever felt like you and your family were under Satanic attack?

That is where we have been these past few weeks.

Oh where do I even begin?

Our home has felt more like a war zone than a warm loving family.  Our children were fighting more and irritations and frustrations were at an all time high.  Okay, I really cannot believe I just admitted to this for all of you to read, but let’s get honest, it happens in all of our homes doesn’t it?

The more my husband preached on this topic the more the attacks seemed to come.  Discouragements were mounting and my husband and I felt like we were failing in both our home and the ministry!  It is interesting how Satan will work so hard to convince us that God is not at work when in reality God is doing or is about to do GREAT things!

Finally, this week my husband and I had had enough with these attacks.  We were done with these weights that were besetting us.  We were done with it all, we wanted to hear from Heaven.  We faithfully get up early each morning and spend time both individually and as a couple praying and reading our Bibles, but we knew we needed more.

So we set aside a day to fast and pray.  {Now, let me be quite honest with you all, I am not adding this little tid-bit to bring praise to ourselves.  No no no, I simply want you, my dear readers to know that there is power in prayer.  There is power in fasting and praying. }

My husband and I took this day to focus on praying about three specific areas that we really want to see God move in.

In my minds eye I envisioned my husband and I, in the full armor of God, kneeling down in front of our children, holding our shields of faith in front of us, and fighting for our children and in two other areas all day long, the best way we knew how, on our knees.

Friends, God heard.

Since that day the discouragements have fled, our home has been more at peace, and we know God is at work in His church.

You know, I daily set aside time to pray and often find I pray throughout my day, but that day was different.  Have you ever just had a heavy longing to hear from God?  Not just about something you want answered for yourself, but for others as well?

When we see God at work in our life, when we experience God transforming our life it often becomes contagious!  We long to see others experience it too!

There is tremendous power in prayer.

This is something God has been teaching me more and more of and I cannot tell you the longing in my heart for others to learn it as well!

What is holding us back from being men and women of prayer?  Is it a lack of faith?  Is it because of un-confessed sin?  Whatever it is that keeping you from praying more, ask the Lord to help you overcome it or get rid of it!  It isn’t worth keeping around when the power of God in your life is at stake.

Prayer changes things, but we must be praying to see those things changed.

Be encouraged,

Keeping a Vertical gaze instead of a Horizontal One

Keeping a Vertical gaze instead of a Horizontal One

I live in a home that can at times be filled with little “policemen/women”.  Our oldest is the typical oldest child, she wants to make sure everyone is doing right and if they aren’t she will let them know.  My middle child wants to make sure the youngest is doing right and if she isn’t he is quick to inform at times.  My youngest, the two year old, well, she just mimics what her older siblings do to her 🙂   We have had many discussions about tattling and informing.  Does any of this sound familiar in your own home?

Tattling can be….. annoying….even frustrating.  We try and teach our children that they should not want their sibling to get in trouble. Often that is what tattling is, isn’t it?

Yet, here I am, even as an adult, and I have a tendency to do the same thing from time to time.

One morning I sat on my front steps and had my mental list of “prayer requests” that were probably more of a list of complaints, ready to lay before the Lord.  Things I longed to see changed and requests I desired answered were shared with the Lord that morning.  On this particular day my thoughts were distracted because my focus had not been upward.

It is so easy to get our eyes looking all around us at what is going on instead of keeping our eyes on the One that can handle everything going on around us.  When our focus becomes horizontal instead of vertical our shoulders tend to slump a bit and our thoughts can get us down.

“Do you see what is going on, Lord?  Where is the faithfulness?” I petitioned.

It was then the Lord prodded my heart and His answer brought with it so much conviction, “Your job is not to make sure everyone else is doing right and being faithful.  Your job is to make sure you do right and are faithful.  Let me be concerned with the everyone else.”

Many times I unintentionally try to carry the pressures of making sure others are on the right path and being faithful.  Faithful to God, to His house, in living right before Him.  I try to carry the job of the Holy Spirit and get discouraged when I don’t see the results!  But on my front steps that morning, the Holy Spirit reminded me, that isn’t my job and I was sticking my nose in His business!

1 Corinthians 15:58 says, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

When we do what God has called us to do and keep our focus on Him, it takes the unnecessary pressure off of us {pressure we were never meant to carry} and allows us to have the energy to keep on doing what we are supposed to do.

When our eyes stay on Christ, we will find it easier to keep our focus on making sure we are living right before the Lord and we are being faithful to Him.

I need to be busy about the work God has given me to do and not try to take on the burden of the Holy Spirit’s work.

As we start this day, let’s be busy about the work God has called us to do!  Let’s not become distracted by keeping our vision horizontal and looking at what everyone else is doing {or not doing}.  Let’s keep our eyes on Christ and be busy with what He has for us to do today!

What’s In A Name

What’s In A Name

Each time my husband and I have been expecting a baby we eventually get around to playing the name game.  And by eventually I mean the week after we find out we are expecting 😉

When it came to our oldest oh we tossed around SO many names!  My husband would say one and I would reply with, “Oh no, I knew someone named that and they were not the sweetest person.”  Then it was my turn and the name I would toss out there was handed right back to me with a resounding, “No way Jose!” for the exact same reason!  He had known someone by that name and they left an awful memory in his mind.  When we finally agreed upon our baby girls name we both knew of one girl with the same name and she had the sweetest spirit.  She was a child back when we were expecting our first baby, but even as a nine year old, she had such a sweet spirit about her and for that reason, we both agreed we could use that name.

There is a verse that has recently stood out to me as I read it.  It is one of those verses that I have read many times before, but it really stood out to me for a different reason this time.  You can find it in Proverbs 18:10, “ The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

The very name of the Lord is a strong tower!  Isn’t that incredible?  I found it interesting the verse does not say the “Arms of the Lord are a strong tower, run into His arms and be safe.”  No, His name is a strong tower!  How incredible!  When I think of God’s name I automatically think of the word, powerful!  Just the mere mention of God’s name evokes strong opinions from people.  His name is a strong tower and those that are righteous know all they have to do is run to His name and they are safe!

Notice that we have to actually do something.  It is not enough just to know that His name is a strong tower, we have to, not walk, not drag our feet, no, RUN to Him and we are safe.

There is power in the name of God.  There is safety in the name of God. Don’t walk, run to Him today and find the security, the safety, the refuge we so often desperately seek!

Let the name of the Lord be your strong tower, run to Him and find your safety there!

What should we do with the Planned Parenthood information?

What should we do with the Planned Parenthood information?

I’m pretty sure we are all aware of what is going on in the news with Planned Parenthood. I cringe to even call it that….  from the time I learned what was going on behind those doors the entire organization has disgusted me.

To be honest though, I have not watched a single second of any of the footage released nor have I read any of the articles. I just cannot stomach it.

As a mother who has lost 5 babies, my heart has at times struggled to love women who have chosen to take the life of their baby, for whatever reason they may have.  I have struggled at times even with the Lord over this.  We believe that God is in control of life and my wounded heart has asked on more than one occasion, “God, why?  Why do you allow these women to get pregnant who are only going to take the life of their baby?  Why do you allow them to get pregnant but You close the wombs of so many devoted Christian women?”

Getting real and honest before God can look ugly sometimes, but we need it.  Maybe your struggle has been similar?

Because the struggle to love these women has been and can be overwhelmingly strong, I choose not watch the videos or read the articles.  I am aware of the headlines and that is enough for me.

So what can those of us who battle over this entire issue do with all of this information?

We can take the entire sin of abortion as a whole, to the feet of the One who has the power to end it. Simply ending the funding to this organization is not the complete answer.  Ending abortion is!  We do not need to know all of the details in order to pray.

We can pray that God would  fill our heart with a love for the sinners involved in this organization, and realize they are lost and on their way to hell and their deeds point out even more their great need for a Savior.

Proverbs 9:10 states, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”  Therefore we can come to the conclusion that because these people do not fear the Lord they do not have wisdom, nor do they grasp the value of human life.

We can also learn a valuable lesson.  Look what the love of money can drive people to do.  Remember, “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” 1 Timothy 6:10

I am not saying we should minimize what this organization has done or the fact that all involved need to be held accountable for their actions.  But we can pray that God will help us remember these people are not the true enemy, Satan is, and he has a powerful control on the lives of these people.  People who need the Lord.

We ought to pray like we have never prayed before for the end of abortion, for hearts to be transformed, for truth to prevail!  When we do pray, pray believing that Christ  can and will answer!!  James 1:6-8, “But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.  For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.  A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”

The question is, are we praying?  Are we simply sharing our disgust on facebook or are we taking it to the feet of the One who can change the hearts of those involved?  The truth is, God is listening, but are we praying?
